Currently it's possible for large fees to exist when normally this is an edge case that a large fee would actually be paid. If that were to happen I'd expect some friction where the user needs to modify a default max fee within the wallet. As a simple heuristic the fee could either take 3x the average fee of the protocol amount. For example, in BTC and ZEC one could query for the current sats/vB or zats/vB and not allow 3x more than the current transaction size 3 average…
